මම Dr.D. Y සරණතිලක මගේ පුතා Dr. ගයාන් දන්තනාරායන.මගේ පුතා ගයාන් දන්තනාරායන කෝරෝනා හැදිලා පෙබරවාරි මාසේ 2වෙනිදා මියගියා.මගේ පුතා තමයි ලංකාවේ කොවිඩ්-19 හැදිලා මියගිය පලමු වෛද්‍යවරයා.

ඔහුට කෝවිඩ් හැදිලා පසුව නිව්මෝනියාවට ආවා.එම නිසා ඔහුගේ පෙනහලු ඉතා දුර්වල වුනා.එම අවස්ථාවේ ඔහුගේ ජිවිතය බේරාගැනිමට අපට තිබුන එකම අවස්ථාව ECMO යන්ත්‍රයකට ඔහුව සම්බන්ධ කිරිමයි.ඔහුට ප්‍රතිකාර කලේ ලංකාවේ අසාධ්‍යම කෝරෝනා රෝගින්ට ප්‍රතිකාර ලබන IDH රෝහලෙයි.නමුත් අවාසනාව කියන්නේ IDH රෝහලේ ECMO යන්ත්‍ර පහසුකම නැහැ.

ලංකාවටම යන්ත්‍ර 2යි තිබෙන්නේ.1ක් ගාල්ල කරාපිටිය රෝහලේ අනික රීජ්වේ ආර්යා රෝහලේ.රීජ්වේ ආර්යා රෝහලේ යන්ත්‍රය ක්‍රියාත්මක තත්වයේ නොපවති.
දැඩි ලෙස අසාධ්‍ය තත්වයේ සිටි මගේ පුතාගේ ජිවිතය බේරගන්න අපේ දක්ෂ වේද්‍යවරුන්ට එකම විකල්පයයි ඉතිරිව තිබුනේ ඒ ECMO යන්ත්‍රයකට මගේ පුතාව සම්බන්ධ කිරිම.ලංකාවේ ක්‍රියාත්මකවන එකම ECMO යන්ත්‍රය වන ගාල්ල කරාපිටිය වෙත මුල්ලේරියාව IDH රෝහලේ සිට යැමට ගතවන කාලය අවම වශයෙන් පැය 2ක් පමන වනවා එම කාලය පෙනහළු ඉතා දුර්වල තත්වයේ රෝගියෙකුට ඉතාමත් තිරනාත්මකව බලපානවා නොමැරි ඉන්න.අවසානයේදි මගේ පුතා මියගියා ගාල්ල කරාපිටිය රෝහලේදි ECMO යන්ත්‍රයට සම්බන්ධ කොට ප්‍රතිකාර ලබාගැනිමෙන් පසුව.IDH රෝහලට ECMO යන්ත්‍රයක් තිබුනානම් හෝ ජංගම ECMO යන්ත්‍රයක් තිබුනානම් මගේ පුතාගේ ජිවිතය බේරගන්න තිබුනා.

මගේ පුතාට මේ වෙච්ච දේ හෙට ඔබට වන්න පුලුවන්,ඔබේ දෙමව්පියන්ට, බීරිදට,සැමියට,දරුවට,සහෝදරයට,හොදම යාහළුවට වන්න පුලුවන්.මියගිය මගේ පුතාගේ නාමයෙන් මම තිරණය කෙරුවා මේ දේ තව කෙනෙකුට වෙන එක වලක්වන්න.ලාංකික රෝහල් පද්ධතියට ජංගම ECMO යන්ත්‍රයක් සහ තවත් එක් ECMO යන්ත්‍රයක සේවය එක් කරන්න.මේ තුලින් විශාල වටිනා ජීවිත ගනනක් බේරගන්න හැකිවේවි.

I am Dr. D Y Saranathilaka My son Dr. Gayan Dantanarayana.Dr. Gayan Danthanarayana, who died while receiving treatment at the Intensive Care Unit of the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital due to COVID-19 complications on the 2nd of February.

Dr. Danthanarayana was admitted to the Mulleriyawa Hospital after testing positive for the virus and later transferred to the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital in Galle on 27 January where he had the only chance to survive was to connect him to an ECMO machine because Covid-19 developed pneumonia weak his lungs too badly.

He was treated at the IDH Hospital in Sri Lanka which treats the worst corona patients. Unfortunately, the IDH Hospital does not have ECMO facilities. Sri Lanka has only 2 machines. One at Karapitiya Hospital, Galle, and the other at Lady Ridgeway Hospital. The machine at Lady Ridgeway Hospital is not in working condition. The journey from Mulleriyawa IDH Hospital to Karapitiya, Galle, the only ECMO machine operating in Sri Lanka, takes at least 2 hours. Within that two hours, anything can happen for a patient like my son. If IDH Hospital had an ECMO machine or a mobile ECMO unit it would have saved my son’s life.

What happened to my son can happen to you tomorrow, to your parents, wife, husband, child, brother, best friend. I decided in the name of my son to prevent this from happening to anyone else. By donating a mobile ECMO unit for the Sri Lankan hospital system and one more ECMO machine to a suitable hospital. This will save a lot of valuable lives.

As a first step,
1 – Design of a mobile ECMO machine (with all facilities)
2 – Further improvement of ECMO machine facilities at Karapitiya Hospital, Galle.
3 – Provide one ECMO unit and training on ECMO machine operation to a selected suitable hospital.

We hope to further implement the above three points and, secondly, to expand these facilities. We plan to provide service centers to those base hospitals in Kandy, Polonnaruwa, and Jaffna. We look forward to the support of all of you Sri Lankans, especially Sri Lankans working abroad, as we look forward to your generous donations. (Value of ECMO machine- Rs. 30.9 million )
