කාරුණික මහත්මයාණෙනි/ මහත්මියනි:
ඔබ අමතන මා මහනුවර කුණ්ඩසාලේ පදිංචි පුරා අවුරුදු තිහක් දැයේ දරුවන්ට අකුරු කරවූ ප්‍රාථමික ගුරුවරියකි.
2022 වසරේ මට වැරදුණු නොනවතින කැස්සක් හේතුවෙන් වෛද්‍ය ප්‍රතිකාර සඳහා මහනුවර රෝහලට සඳහා යොමු වුණෙමි. එහිදී මට වේගයෙන් පැතිරෙන metastatic adenocarcinoma නම් පෙනහලු පිළිකාව වැළඳී ඇති බව සොයා ගැනිණි.
ඒ අවස්ථාව වන විට මා පිළිකාවේ 4 වන අවස්ථාවේ (final stage) සිටින බව මට ප්‍රතිකාර කළ මගේ වෛද්‍යවරයා ප්‍රකාශ කරන ලදී. වෛද්‍ය නිර්දේශයට අනුව වැළඳී තිබූ පිළිකාව ශල්‍යකර්මයකට හැකි කඩිනමින් භාජනය කළ යුතු බව නිර්දේශ කෙරිණි. එම පිලිකාව ඉවත් කිරීමට ශල්‍යකර්මයක් සිදු කිරීමට නිර්දේශ වී තිබූ වැලිසර ළය රෝහලේ ශල්‍යාගාරය එවකට අලුත්වැඩියාවකට ලක් කරමින් තිබූ නිසාත් රටේ පැවැති දූර්භාග්‍යමත් අවාසනාවන්ත තත්ත්වය නිසාත් ජීවිත අවදානම අඩු කර ගැනීමට මට එම ශල්‍යකර්මය කොළඹ ඩර්ඩන්ස් පෞද්ගලික රෝහලෙන් සිදු කිරීමට සිදුවිය.
ඒ සඳහා රුපියල් ලක්ෂ 15ක් පමණ මට ගෙවීමට සිදු වූ අතර මගේ කණකර ආදිය විකුණා හිග මුදල් සඳහා පාසල් ප්‍රජාවගෙන් සහ ඥාති මිත්‍රාදීන්ගේ සහායෙන් එම මුදල සම්පාදනය කර ගත්තෙමි. නමුත් ඒ වන විටත් පිලිකාව පැතිරී පෙනහැල්ලේ පිට බිත්තියට ඇලී තිබීම මත ශල්‍යකර්මය සාර්ථක නොවිණි. ඉන් අනතුරුව ජීවිතය රැක ගැනීම සඳහා මහත් අධිෂ්ඨානයෙන් කිමෝ තෙරපි ප්‍රතිකාරයට ලක් වුණෙමි. මේ අවස්ථාව වන විට ලංකාවේ පැවති ඖෂධ හිගය සහ රෝහල්වල සමහර පරීක්ෂණ කටයුතු නොකළ නිසා ඒ සියල්ල සඳහා මට පෞද්ගලිකව වියදම් දරා ගැනීමට සිදුවිය. එනිසා මා අද දිළිඳුකමේ පත්ලට ඇද වැටී සිටිමි.
කීමෝ ප්‍රතිකාර වලින් අනතුරුව හුස්ම ගැනීමේ අපහසුව, අතිමහත් වේදනාව, කෑම අරුචිය, ශරීරය කෘෂවී දිරායාම, ඉවසා දරාගත නොහැකි ශාරීරික අපහසුතා වේදනාව, නින්ද නොයාම, ආදී සංකූලතා රැසකින් පෙලුණු මා මගේ ජීවිතය අහිමි වෙතැයි බොහෝ දෙනා පවසද්දී, මා ජීවිතය අත් නොහැර දැඩි අධිෂ්ඨානයෙන් යුතුව ප්‍රතිකාර ලබා ගනිමින් මට වැළදී තිබූ පිළිකාවට “පිළිකාව ඔයා මගෙන් යන්න. මට මගේ දරුවන්ට උගන්වන්න ඕනෑ.” යන ස්වයං යෝජනාව දෛනික ජීවිතයේ සෑම මොහොතකම භාවනාවක් කරගනිමින් සුව වෙන්නට වෙර දැරීමි.
කීමෝ ප්‍රතිකාර අවසන් කර සිදුකළ CT පරීක්ෂණ වලින් මගේ පිළිකාව කුඩා වී සුව අතට හැරෙන බව මගේ වෛද්‍යවරයා මට ප්‍රකාශ කරද්දී “අත්නොහළ ජීවිතය” යළි මා උපයා ගත්තා යන හැඟීම මට දැනුණි.
දැන් මට මගේ වෛද්‍යවරයා දිනකට එක පෙත්ත බැගින් අවුරුද්දකට ගැනීමට ඔස්ම්ටිනිබ් (Osimertinib 80mg) නම් ඖෂධය නියම කර තිබේ.

එම බෙහෙත දැන් ලංකාවේ රජයේ රෝහල්වල නොමැති අතර බාහිරින් මිලදී ගැනීමේ දී මසකට අදාළ බෙහෙත් පෙති බෝතලයකට රු:188,000 ක් වැයවේ. තවද මසකට නියමිත බෙහෙත් ප්‍රමාණය එකවර මිලදී ගත යුතුව තිබේ. කුලී නිවසක බයිපාස් සැත්කමකට යොමු වී ඇති හෘද රෝගී මගේ ස්වාමිපුරුෂයාවත් බලාගෙන ජීවත්වන මට එම මුදල කිසිසේත්ම දැරීමට නොහැකිය. මාස දෙකකට අදාල බෙහෙත් ඔබ වැනිම දානපතීන්ගේ ආධාරයෙන් ලබාගෙන මම මේ වන විට භාවිතා කරමින් සිටිමි. ඉදිරි මාස 10 සඳහා 188000×10=රු :18,80,000 මුදලක් වැයවෙන අතර එම මුදල සොයාගැනීම මට කිසිසේත්ම කළ නොහැකිය.

I was a primary school teacher who taught letters for the children of the country for the past 30 years.

In the year 2022, I went to Kandy Hospital to get treatment to a persistent cough that I had. I was diagnosed with metastatic adenocarcinoma, a rapidly spreading lung cancer.

At that time, my doctor who treated me declared that I was in the 4th stage of cancer. According to the doctor’s recommendation, it was recommended that the cancer should be operated on as soon as possible. It was decided to do the surgery in Walisara chest hospital but the theatre was under construction and it was delayed due to the unfortunate situation of the country. Therefore to reduce the life risk, the surgery was done in Durdens Hospital,colombo. For that I had to pay around 15 lacks and I raised the sum by selling my jewellery and with the help of the school community and relatives. But at that time the cancer has spread to the outside of the left lung, so the surgery was not successful.

After that with great determination to I faced chemo treatment. Due to the shortage of drugs and certain tests were not done in government hospitals, I have borne the most of the costs. Therefore, I have fallen to the bottom of poverty today.

After the chemo treatments, I have faced difficulty to breath, lot of body pain, no appetite to eat, losing weight and not able to sleep. Lot of people said that I might lose my life but I didn’t give up on life. With great determination, I received treatment and I always contemplate that “cancer please go away from me, I want more time to teach my kids”. As a self-suggestion I think about it as a meditation in my daily life and tried to get well soon.

When the doctor said that my cancer is curing from the results of the CT scan done after the chemo treatments. I felt that I earned the life that I didn’t gave up.

Now my doctor has prescribed Osimertinib 80 mg and instructed get a one tablet per day for a week.

Now that medicine is not available in the government hospitals and therefore, I have to buy it from outside. The cost per one month is Rs: 188,000. Also, I have to buy the medicine for month at once. I’m living in a rent house looking after my husband who has faced a bypass surgery. I have already purchased it for two months with the kind hearted donors like you. For the next months, I will need 188000×10=Rs:18,80,000 and I cannot find that amount.
