Rebuild Anuradhapura’s Flood-Damaged School Libraries
During the recent floods caused by Cyclone Ditwa, many essential social infrastructures were damaged or destroyed, including roads, schools, and libraries. One of the least addressed, yet most vital, losses has been the complete destruction of valuable school libraries.
We are a small Sri Lankan publishing company with 35 years of experience in children’s and young adult literature. We want to help restore the joy of reading for children in flood-affected areas by rebuilding at least one school library fully, starting with Anuradhapura Central College.
Our plan includes:
-
Donating books from both Sri Lankan and international publishers.
-
Repairing or replacing furniture, including water-damaged cupboards and bookshelves.
-
Hiring skilled carpenters to rebuild functional and safe library spaces.
While we may not be able to return the library to its pre-flood glory completely, our goal is to bring it as close as possible to a vibrant, welcoming space for learning and reading.
If we raise more funds than needed for Anuradhapura Central, we will use the surplus to support other flood-affected school libraries.
With your help, we can restore a space of learning, imagination, and hope for children whose education and joy have been disrupted by the floods.
Join us in bringing books—and smiles—back to these young readers.
